Stanmore Choral Society’s output is led by two professional musicians:
Tammas Slater – Guest Musical Director

A prize-winning graduate of Chetham’s School of Music, Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music, Tammas Slater has partnered singers and instrumentalists at many of the UK’s most prestigious concert venues including Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall Manchester and the Leeds Lieder festival. He has appeared on BBC Radio as a pianist and organist, and is the current Gilbert & Eileen Edgar and Anthony Saltmarsh Fellow in Collaborative Piano at the Royal College of Music.
Alongside his work as a concertising collaborative musician, Tammas has served as permanent accompanist to Cambridge University Symphony Chorus, Hertford Choral Society and the Academy Choir, Wimbledon. He has worked as a rehearsal pianist for the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and on opera and musical theatre productions at the Royal Academy of Music, Garsington Opera, Regent’s Opera and Nova Music Opera.
Tammas has built a career as a conductor as well, working with Chetham’s Contemporary Music Ensemble, Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Singers, and has held positions as conductor of Chetham’s Chorale, assistant conductor of Cambridge University Orchestra and conductor of Cambridge University Wind Orchestra.
Also a composer and winner of BBC Young Composer of the Year, his works have been commissioned and performed by many ensembles including the BBC Singers, Aurora Orchestra, Fidelio Trio and the choir of Jesus College, Cambridge.
Alongside his work with Stanmore Choral Society, Tammas is also interim music director of Reading A440 Choir.
James Mooney-Dutton – Assistant Musical Director & Accompanist

James Mooney-Dutton was educated at the Royal College of Music where he studied with Margaret Phillips, and as a music scholar at Harrow School. He has held organ scholarships at Norwich Cathedral and the Royal Parish Church of St Martin-in-the-Fields in central London. As a boy chorister at Westminster Abbey he sang at the funeral of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
As a recitalist James has performed in many venues in the UK and abroad such as St James’s Cathedral Toronto, Magdalen College Oxford, Queen’s College Oxford, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Norwich Cathedral, Lincoln Cathedral and St Andrew’s Hall Norwich, as well as at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
He has also broadcast live on BBC Radios 3 and 4 and has appeared on Songs of Praise and Eastenders.
Having spent many years as a parish director of music, James now enjoys a varied freelance career as organist, accompanist and choral director. As well as being accompanist to Stanmore Choral Society, he has worked with Northwood, Fakenham and Ramsey choral societies.
When not engaged in all things musical, James can be found spending time his family and managing the family businesses – James Funeral Service in Harrow and Wisbech Funeral Service in Cambridgeshire.
